Section 1: The Secret
Now, we'll discuss the story in detail. It starts with a guy named Algernon who is playing the piano in his flat. And Algernon has one aunt and her name is Lady Bracknell. And let me tell you guys, she is a very boring person. She has one daughter and her name is Gwendolen. And as she is the daughter of Lady Bracknell, Algernon and Gwendolen are basically cousins. Now guys, Algernon has a friend named Mr. Ernest and his other name is Jack. This is a good name. The story is based on him. Mr. Ernest visits his friend in the flat and Algernon gets very happy and welcomes him. And Mr. Ernest tells him a secret that he has come to the town to propose to Gwendolen. Now Algernon asks Jack about Sicily. Jack denies any knowledge of Cecily. Now to Jack's surprise, Algernon shows him a cigarette case and tells him that the last time we had dinner together, you forgot this case here. And this clearly has Cecily written on it. Which means that you were gifted this case by Sicily. Jack tells him the truth that he is leading a double life. He is playing a dual role. Sicily is his responsibility and he is taking care of her. In front of Sicily and the area he stays in, he acts as Jack. Whereas when he comes to the city, he comes as Ernest. Quite a suspenseful story, right guys? So Jack continues telling Algernon that the girl Cecily calls him Uncle Jack. And where I stay, people think that I have a brother named Ernest who lives in the city. So when he wants to get rid of his responsibilities, he becomes Ernest and comes to the city for a while. Now guys, Algernon's doubts were right. That Ernest was hiding something and now the truth has come out. But wait, Ernest has only told the truth to Algernon as he is his friend and he trusts him. Will Algernon keep his secret forever or betray his friend and leak it? Let's find out in the later part of the story.
Section 2: The Proposal
Now guys, after some time, Lady Bracknell visits Algernon's flat with Gwendolen. Algernon keeps Lady Bracknell busy. Meanwhile, Jack proposes to Gwendolen. She agrees immediately to marry him. She tells him that she will marry him only if he changes his name to Ernest as she likes the name Ernest a lot. Now Jack gets confused about why she likes this name so much and then Lady Bracknell interrupts them. Gwendolen tells her that she wants to marry Ernest. Lady Bracknell tells Gwendolen that she wants to ask Jack first. She wanted to ask him about where he stays, his financial condition, other typical parent questions you know. So, Jack tells her that he is an orphan. He was very young when Mr. Thomas Cardew found him in a handbag at Victoria Station and adopted him. Upon hearing this, Lady Bracknell gets very angry as he had no family. So she declares that no, he cannot marry Gwendolen and takes her away from him.
Section 3: Algernon Pretending to be Earnest
Now friends, the next scene takes place in the countryside where Jack stays with Cecily. The place is called Hertfordshire and Cecily is learning German from her teacher, Miss Prism. Miss Prism leaves from there, leaving Cicely alone. Now Ernest comes here. Let me tell you guys that this Ernest is not Jack but Algernon, pretending to be Ernest. Cicely trusts him, thinking he is the brother of Uncle Jack. So, Jack also comes there wearing clothes that indicate someone has died. He wants to tell Cicely that Ernest has died, but to his surprise, he finds out that Algernon is pretending to be Ernest. He gets very angry but cannot do anything as Algernon knows his secret. Now guys, Algernon falls for Cicely the very moment he sees her and he proposes to her immediately. Cicely also accepts the proposal saying that she had a dream to marry someone named Ernest. What is this crazy fancy fantasy these girls have of marrying someone named Ernest? Now Algernon leaves for some time.
Section 4: Confusion
Now some confusion happens. Surprise, surprise, guess who comes? Gwendolen comes there. Now Cecily brings her to her garden and they have tea together. They start talking and Cecily tells her that she is going to marry a man named Ernest. To her surprise, Gwendolen says, how is this possible? Ernest is her fiancé. They both start fighting over this until Jack and Algernon arrive there. They both ask, who is the real Ernest? To their reply, Jack tells them that there is no Ernest. Both girls are very angry when Jack tells them the truth that he used to become Ernest to meet Gwendolen and Algernon tells them that he became Ernest to meet Cecily. Now both girls, after hearing this, forgive them only if both of these guys keep their names as Ernest from now on. Meanwhile, while they are talking, Lady Bracknell arrives there. Gwendolen tells her that she is engaged to Jack and Algernon tells her that he is engaged to Cicely. Now friends, as we all know, Lady Bracknell does not agree for Gwendolen to get married to Jack and she also says that Algernon cannot marry Cecily. She insults both Jack and Cecily and in response, Jack asks her to mind her words as Cecily has so much money that she can buy her whole family. So, listening to this, Lady Bracknell says that Algernon can marry Cecily to which Jack says that he will not let this marriage happen. Lady Bracknell tells him that she is of legal age and it's her choice. She can marry whoever she wants. Jack tells them that her father set her legal age as 30 years before he went away so she will only marry where I want her to get married meaning Algernon and Cecily cannot marry. Now Lady Bracknell asks him what he wants to which Jack replies that he wants to marry Gwendolen first and then Lady Bracknell immediately denies it.
Section 5: Happy Ending
Then she meets Miss Prism and asks her if she is the same girl who took two of her sister's children in a bag to Victoria Station. Yes guys, this Miss Prism was the one who misplaced those children in the cloakroom of Victoria Station. Jack then goes to the manor's library and gets to know that his father is someone named John Worthing. His name is Ernest and Algernon is his younger brother. Both brothers hug each other and get married to the girls of their choices and this is how guys, the story ends on a happy note.
